Doug Smith

“We’ve spent a generation developing goals and strategies reducing abject poverty and building sustainable livelihoods. Our next steps must be leveraging agricultural entrepreneurism to leverage markets that can take those families further while reducing our environmental footprint.”

Doug has worked over 20 years in the NGO, academia, and business sectors making connections between policy and development.

He is a graduate of James Madison University, Lexington Theological Seminary, and is a Fellow of the Sorensen Institute for Political Leadership at the University of Virginia. His work has included the World Council of Churches, Odyssey Media, leading a public policy group as CEO, and he recently completed seven years leading the Robert. H. Smith Center for the Constitution. He has served as Chair of the Board of Heifer International and Chair of the U.S. Board of Send a Cow.

Doug launched Sly Clyde Ciderworks, a rapidly expanding craft beverage company in the United States. He is a recognized authority on public policy and testified before the U.S. Congress on humanitarian development and climate change.
