Golden rules dairy nutrition

  • Know the nutrient analysis of all components of the ration: Digestible Protein, Energy,
  • Know how much the cows are eating  – dry matter intake 
  • Forage/Concentrate ratio:
    Digestible forage — minimum 60%
    Concentrate/grain –  maximum 40%
  • Protein/Energy
    Protein (depending on forage quality) 15-19%
    Fat <7%
    Balanced for minerals, vitamins
  • Feed a Total Mixed Ration (TMR)
